CIVIL supports the strike of journalists, calls for solidarity

CIVIL – Center for Freedom is expressing its maximum support for the 120 journalists employed in the editions of “Media Print Macedonia” (MPM), who have been on strike for two weeks now for realizing their workers’ rights and receiving their unpaid salaries and fees.

This treatment towards the workers is inappropriate and unacceptable!

A large company such as MPM cannot keep hundreds of eminent journalists and media workers in uncertainty and insecurity for such a long time, and offensively violate their workers’ rights and human rights, bringing in question the future of these people and their families.

We remind the management of MPM that not paying salaries, fees and annual leave is punishable by law.

We demand an immediate resolution to this ordeal of the media workers!

The threats, pressures and blackmail over journalists must immediately stop and their right to strike respected, along with all other rights in the area of social justice. Not to mention the right to free expression!

We urge for solidarity, not only from journalists, but also from citizens, because the journalists from “Vest”, “Utrinski vesnik” and “Dnevnik”, despite the strike, and in the interest of the public, continue to work and produce contents for the newspapers and their audience, although they are facing an uncertain future.
