“Citizens need to be persistent and address the State Election Commission in writing, or the regional offices of the SEC”, stated legal expert of CIVIL – Center for Freedom, lawyer Sandra Gavrilovska, in response to the latest reactions among the public in regards to the cases of voters “disappearing” from the Voters Register, just a few days prior to the early parliamentary elections.
“Citizens need to submit a short and clear written notice to the SEC that after the checks have been made and the Voters Register has been closed, they do not figure on the list! It would be good if citizens could also send copies to CIVIL of the submitted letters to the SEC, with evidence that they have been submitted. Primarily, in order to have records of all the problems they have with the list, but also in order to possibly take further measures within the framework of CIVIL’s activities”, considers Gavrilovska.
After hundreds of citizens reacted yesterday because the application for checking data in the Voters Register for citizens who will be voting at voting stations on the territory of Macedonia was not functioning, CIVIL – Center for Freedom immediately reacted in that the Voters Register must not become a tool for manipulating election results!
Citizens responded yesterday because in addition to the unresolved situation with the “phantoms” that have still not been deleted from the Voters Register, there are people now, who have been voting for years at the same voting stations and who during their last checks before the list was closed still figured on the Voters Register, that suddenly are not on the list!
CIVIL firmly demanded from the State Election Commission to immediately clear the newly created situation, and to come up with a methodology - how to enable deprived citizens who are not at fault for the chaos in the Voters Register, to realize their constitutionally guaranteed right to vote.
The SEC informed the public that yesterday there were “some technical problems with the application for checking data in the Voters Register for citizens who will be voting at voting stations on the territory of Republic of Macedonia”, but that it is “already in function and is accessible”.
“The technical problems do not affect or influence the Voters Register, the organization, or the implementation of the forthcoming voting for the election of Members of Parliament of Republic of Macedonia”, is said in the statement of the SEC.
CIVIL is urging citizens to use the active site and to check their status in the Voters Register, by entering their ID number along with the location and number of the voting station and the Municipality in which they are to vote, as most of the “phantoms” until now were discovered by checking the addresses.
